MR. FRANK HANNA Learning Football Coach criticism Lingenfelter Binkley LIMA CENTRAL
This was the last football squad to play for Lima South.
The cheering, shouting, fight song, alma mater, percussion
section, cheerleaders, the players, the great "Tiger Band", fans
and always the barking of a loose dog on the field resonating
throughout the remaining West stand.

LIMA SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL
BASKETBALL 1954-1955
What a great influence one man can have over literally hundreds of
students. Mr. Joe Bowers was impressive both on the fiield or in the
classroom. He was not only involved with the education process, and
MR. JOE BOWERS coaching, he was also the Sports Director for the City of Lima's Parks
and Recreation Department for many years.
Mr. Bowers took care of business by being a good disciplinarian.
We all respected him.

LIMA STADIUM JUST EAST OF LIMA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
The Lima Stadium was designed by Lima architect, Thomas McLaughlin, in 1936. The west stands
had some remodeling several years ago. New locker room were built under the stands and protruded
out from the facade, destroying the original west facade. Even though the structure is on the Historic
records list. Recently the east stands were removed. I wonder why the west stands were strong, and
the east seating met the wrecking ball. They were built in the same year. Was there a maintainece
problem. Was water to blame? Did the concrete just deteriorate? The Ohio State Stadium was built
in the 19th Century. It still stands. the Roman Colesiumwas built in 80 a.d. Although it has decayed,
it has stood for centuries.
I believe there is talk of removing the newer dressing rooms in under the west stands, and restoring
the west stand back to its original beauty. I applaud this move, and support any efforts to do so.
Back in the 30's, 40's, and mid-50's, Lima Stadium was utilized by three Lima High School football teams:
Lima South
Lima Central
Lima Saint Rose(combination of St. Johns, St. Rose, And St. Gerard High Schools).
In the Mid Fifties, and into the present, two teams shared or, share the gridiron. these teams are:
Lima Senior
Lima Central Catholic
I can remember when the Cleveland Browns held a scrimmage at Lima Stadium.
The field looked like a cattle drive had just passed through it. Since the turf was organic grass
at that time, repairs were in order.

Until recently, the Lima Warriors semi-pro football team used the field. It was a great experience:
the crowds, the souveners, the football teams, the cheerleaders, dancers, games for kids. There was
plenty to eat and drink. It was a great night out for the whole family, and at a reasonable price.
It might be in the interest of everyone in Lima, whether you played, or were a spectator, to help
support any effort to gain money for a new east stand, to be rebuilt in its original design.
Present classmates in the elementary, middle schools, or high schools, could help raise money.
Industrial corporations, businesses, bond issue, former graduates of these five high schools, and private
donors could help raise money for this worthy cause. I also do not know whether any block grant, or
federal or state stimulus money is available.
