LIMA CENTRAL
HIGH SCHOOL
We could not have a complete web site if we did not pay honor and respect
to our cousins accross the Ottawa River.
Although I did not know the students
at Lima Central, I know that they held a
great loyalty for their high school, just as we, at Lima South did.
A PICTURE OF LIMA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL Central High School was located in the
downtown Lima area. It was a huge beautiful structure that eventually covered an entire city block. When it was first constructed, the high school was known as Lima High School. Lima High School was situated on West High Street, and had a much smaller facade when it was built. Two extra wings were built. One on the west facade, and another on the east facade.
Franklin Elementary School, was located on the north side of the same block. Eventually the high school expanded to include the entire block. A larger gymnasium and auditorium were constructed.
The mascott was "The Dragon", and the annual was named "The Mirror". I am not sure what the newspaper was named. My father, and my wife's father graduated from Central in 1932. What a rivalry.
I did not want to mention why I did not know many Central kids, but the reason was that I was not supposed
to cross Kibby Street(Snicker). I grew up on East Vine Street. Three beautiful Lima South High students, class of 1955, did move to other Lima high schools. Two graduated in the Lima Central High Class of 1955. These girls were Arlette(Holman) Griner, and Joyce Kaye Geren, who was one of my best friends at Washington Elementary School, on Pine & Kibby Streets, Lima. Charlotte (Vogelgesang) Apfelbeck, a cheerleader at Lima South, moved to Shawnee, where she graduated from Lima Shawnee High in 1955.
